Week 1 Awards

Well that was indeed a wonky opening week. Let’s get right to it…

Need a new tire from that blowout?

- TMW (1) with a 34.1 point win over KAK started the season off super hot! Anyone else realize KAK was the 2nd highest scoring team in the league this week?! 😳 TMW didn’t win this award at all during regular season last year… but look for them to be a regular recipient this year.

Need some oil to fix that squeaker?

- KED (1) beat NUT by 3.92 points. Again… this award recipient didn’t win this at all last year, but KED (and TMW) are establishing themselves as Players Cup contenders, and a win is a win.

Show him the money!

- TMW (1) with their 216.16 opening performance secured the $50 weekly payout. Over under on $500 winnings for TMW this year? HOLY NUT! What? Stafford and Waller went baller. NUT with 197.28 points looking like they won’t be a challenger for the Toilet Bowl crown.

When your best not only isn’t good enough… it just plain sucks.

- DNF (1) with a measly 106.86 (close to half of their projected score) put forth quite the underwhelming performance. Once again, here’s a situation where the award recipient didn’t receive this distinction at all last year! I kinda even wonder if DNF has ever won this award before? 🤔 I’ll check the record books later (if Bart doesn’t beat me to it). Also… looking ahead to next week against KED… an 0-2 DNF may quickly find themselves in sell mode to prepare for 2022 (go ahead, call me crazy, but I despise 0-2 starts).

This ain’t horseshoes or hand grenades.

- KAK (1) as mentioned before, with 182.06 would have beaten everyone else this week… except the team they played. Ouch 🤕. Gonna be a tough go in Barley division this year… Barley had top 3 scores and 4 of top 7 this week. Gonna take a big trade or two to rise to the top of that division.

Better lucky?

- TIU(1) with 125.20 won by being so fortunate as to face the only team they would’ve beat this week (you know, DNF, the aforementioned winner of the plain sucks award… just to continue to let that sink in). So this is the rare example of the lucky award being perfectly lucky. Seems not so long ago TIU was on the flip side of the bad luck results.

Ford, Chevy, or Ram?

- No traditional standout per the usual definition for this award this week… but a nod to RAF for overall good start/sit decision maximization of total points possible. That said, for rolling out the most impressive looking and performing work of art, TMW (1) takes this one home this week and adds to their notable early haul (check out the start/sit decision prowess… even Sleeper noticed).

Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda.

- um… every team that lost (except KAK) has a very strong and legitimate claim to this award this week. So much so in fact, that I think I’ll just give a group award to this weeks losers minus KAK.
