Commish Note 22-08 Upcoming Events in DFFL

Owners, the season is about to start and the things are going to get busy in the DFFL. Here is a quick look ahead at what is going to be happening so you can be prepared.

1. End of Signing Period. As you all should be well aware by now, the DFFL signing period ends Sunday night. Most move are already in, but you can make changes up until the deadline.

2. Auction Budgets and Player Pool finalized. Following the signing period, once I get all the moves properly accounted for in the contract sheets I'll make sure all the rosters in sleeper are 100% accurate and update your auction budgets to match your remaining salary caps. I intend to make 0 errors, but that's probably not going to happen. Please check over your teams contracts, players in sleeper and make sure your auction budget in Sleeper is correct.

3. Poaching Period. See my previous commish note but this will happen Thursday and Friday next week.

4. Free Agent Auction. This will start promptly at 8 EDT on Sunday the 4th. Some notes:

   1. Autodraft sucks. So, To prevent that if you don't sign-in to the auction I'll spend your entire budget on one really useless player that will be cut after the auction. If you join later I'll undo it. If you drop out in the middle of the auction I will pause the auction and do the same thing. I ask that you don't try and bid from your phone on a beach with spotty cell phone connection or something like that if it all possible.

   2. If you're done bidding, don't want anymore players and don't want to stick around until the end of the auction, let me know in chat. I'll pause the auction and fill a roster position with a useless player again and use up all your money. You might acquire some $1 players after that, but you can cut them as well with no penalty. Note: Once you make this decision its irreversible and you can't rejoin the auction.

   3. The auction has 9 rounds. You are not required to use all or any of these rounds but this does mean two things.

      1. You'll only be able to get a maximum of nine players at auction. I can't do anything to fix that, it's a sleeper limitation.

      2. Your max bid as calculated by sleeper will be your remaining cap minus the number of your players spots left in the auction. Technically, our rules allow you to bid all of your remaining dollars on a player but because of sleeper limitations this can't happen. In reality, no one should go into the start of the season with $0 available for the waiver wire so think of this as fail safe for you to keep some cash available for the season. If this sub-paragraph made your head hurt and you have no idea what I am talking about, don't worry this is in your best interest.

   4. A team who has left the auction and had their cap maxed out by a. or b. above will still auto-nominate players at $1. Any player auto-nominated for $1 and then subsequently won in auction by another owner for exactly $2 will be treated as $1 player. Again if this rule makes your head hurt, don't worry it's in the interest of fairness and can only help you.

   5. I'll be pausing the auction about hourly for 5-10 minutes for bathroom breaks and beverage refills.

5. Post Auction Taxi Draft. Same as last year immediately following the auction we will conduct an optional linear (i.e. not snake) taxi draft. This allows you to fill your taxi squad with non-rookies as desired. Draft order will be the same as the auction nomination order. If you don't participate I'll accept first come first serve taxi additions via email of remaining free agents through Monday Night.

6. Post Action Salaries. After the auction I need all of the contracts your going to assign to the players you won at auction. See the rules for how to do this. The deadline is Monday night following the auction. Failure to submit will result in the player receiving a one year contract at the value you won in auction. Don't worry Brian will hound you relentlessly to do this.

7. First Waivers. The nightly waivers will begin overnight Tues-Wed, 6-7 Sept. I'll unlock rosters/waivers on Monday after I have completed all the post auction salary updates etc...This signifies the start of the DFFL regular season and we are off an running.
